How To Sell

Selling your firearm on Liberty Gun Trader is simple and secure. Follow these steps to create your listing and connect with buyers:

Step 1: Create an Account

Before you can list your firearm, you’ll need to create an account with Liberty Gun Trader. This ensures a smooth selling experience and allows us to provide you with updates on your listing. Sign up by providing a valid email address and setting up a secure password. Each seller account must be approved before you can sell. We typically approve within 1-2 hours, or up to 1 business day.

Step 2: Setup Shipping – Learn how here

Step 3: Understand the Legal Requirements

Firearms sales are highly regulated. It’s essential to comply with both federal and state laws when listing and selling a firearm. For private sales:

  • Federal Law: All interstate sales must go through a licensed Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer.
  • State Laws: These vary, so check your state’s requirements regarding private sales, background checks, and required paperwork. Liberty Gun Trader strongly encourages sellers to review legal obligations before proceeding.

Step 4: Create Your Listing – Or Import Products

Once your account is set up and you’re clear on the legal requirements, you can list your firearm:

  • Title: Write a clear and concise title that includes the firearm make and model.
  • Description: Provide a detailed description, including the firearm’s condition, features, any modifications, and its history (if applicable).
  • Price: Set a competitive and fair price. You can also include whether you’re open to negotiations or firm on the price.
  • Photos: Upload clear, high-quality images of the firearm from multiple angles to help potential buyers see exactly what you’re offering.

Step 5: Manage Inquiries

Once your listing is live, potential buyers can contact you directly through the platform. Be responsive to questions and communicate clearly. All communications should be done within the confines of the law, and no sales should proceed until legal requirements are confirmed.

Step 6: Complete the Sale

When you’ve found a buyer:

If you’re an FFL, you’ll either transfer the firearm to another FFL for the buyer or transfer it directly to the customer on a Form 4473.  Check out FFLSafe for a free Bound Book and e4473: FFLSafe.com

If you’re an individual (non-FFL):

  • Background Check: If required by law in your state or for interstate sales, ensure the buyer passes a background check. This can be done through an FFL dealer.
  • Payment: We recommend using secure payment methods. Liberty Gun Trader is not responsible for payment processing, so it’s crucial to use trusted services.
  • Transfer of Firearm: Arrange for the firearm to be shipped through an FFL dealer or transferred in person, following state and federal guidelines.

Step 7: Close the Listing

After the sale is complete, return to your account and mark your item as “Sold” to close the listing. This helps keep the marketplace up to date for other users.
